Good friends reviewing movies just for you

I watch a lot of movies.  A lot of movies.  So far in 2011, I’ve seen 54 movies in the theater.  I don’t have any professional qualifications–I don’t have a degree in film and I’ve never actually written movie reviews before.  But I love movies and I see a lot of them and I like to talk about them with other people.  So do my awesome friends Joe and Todd.  Thus, a movie blog was born.

Here are just a few ground rules for my posts (the guys may have different rules for their reviews):

  1. No spoilers.  This is a huge one for me.  I won’t talk about anything that you wouldn’t have seen in the preview.  I also think that previews sometimes give away way too much these days, so I won’t always even talk about plot elements you might see in the trailer.  Mostly I’m going to talk about the acting, the pacing, the costumes, and just generally whether or not it’s a good film.  I won’t ever say, “I totally saw the twist coming!” or, “The best part was when they fell down the elevator shaft!”  That is my promise to you.
  2. There will be swearing.  I like R-rated movies and I’m going to feel free to fucking swear in my movie blog.  Forewarned is forearmed.  I also occasionally make inappropriate and tasteless jokes.  If that’s not something you enjoy, you may want to avoid my posts.  I would say that Todd and Joe will be much classier and you can read their posts instead, but I do know these two guys.  And Joe is much classier than I am.
  3. I will be as objective as possible.  I have favorite actors (Anne Hathaway, Ryan Gosling) and actors that I hate (Rachel McAdams, Shia LaBeouf).  Even when someone I hate is starring in a movie, I will do my best to give it a fair review.  That being said, I can’t see every movie, and I’m probably not going to see anything in the Transformers franchise anytime soon.
  4. I’m going to see and review the kinds of films I like.  Fortunately, I have pretty varied tastes.  I will watch action movies, comedies, romances, chick flicks, thrillers, horror films, comic book movies, anything sci-fi or fantasy, biopics, documentaries…just about anything.  Genres I probably will not be reviewing include kids’ movies, religious films, westerns and some sports movies.  Joe will probably cover westerns and Todd can sometimes be counted on to see truly awful kids’ movies like Kung-Fu Panda and such. Oh, and I probably won’t see any of those fluffy teen movies like High School Musical.  But I did see Glee 3-D and I’ve seen every Twilight movie so far (thanks, Libby), so I’ll have some teen movie reviews.

That’s it for now, I suppose.  But watch this space–this blog should be updated at least once a week.  Add us to your favorite reader, bookmark the site, or rely on one of us to periodically remind you to come and read.  We’re probably going to bug the hell out of all of our friends, as we are excited.  Or, at least, I am.

I wish…

It’s a new year and I’m ready to watch some movies!   First up, I saw “Into the Woods” on New Year’s Day.  I have a long history with the play.  My high school was full of lovely theater people, and someone had a VHS tape of the Broadway version with Bernadette Peters that we

Truth in advertising

Just a quick post to say that, while somewhat spoiler-y, these “honest” movie posters are pretty funny.

It’s award season, bitches!

Golden Globes!  Golden Globes! Let’s do this. First, can we talk about Tina Fey and Amy Pohler?  Seriously, these women are amazing.  And that first dress that Tina had on was just stunning.  I cannot get enough of these two.  They should just have them host forever. I attended a Golden Globes viewing party at
